1 - Discovering stealth items

Ruling issued: 30/08/2024 - Ruling not updated since publish.

Stealth items are antagonist items that are only distinguishable from the item they are trying to pose as via their associated game mechanics. This includes but is not limited to thieving gloves, chameleon clothing, agent ID cards, ...

Stealth items cannot be discovered via a regular search.

A thorough search can discover stealth items. There is no limitation on who needs to perform this search to make the discovery. To perform a thorough search, you require justifiable basis as defined below.

For all stealth items, the following counts as justifiable basis:

  • Correctly arguing your case in ahelp and getting Game Master permission.
  • Seeing the item used for its illegitimate purpose in front of you.

The table below gives additional category-specific justifiable bases. It also details additional considerations to be taken while performing the thorough search.

Item category Justifiable basis Search process
Chameleon clothes Holographic fibers being found. You must roleplay feeling over the item and examining it, after this you are allowed to right click the item to check if the item is a stealth item.
Thieving gloves[^1] Multiple ( > 1 ) reported cases of pickpocketing. You can only discover the item as thieving gloves by using them in a secure area such as the security department and thus naturally discovering the property.
Agent ID cards Observing incorrect access or wrong job icons and/or titles either directly or indirectly (crew monitor, cameras, ...). You must roleplay examining the card closely, after this you may right click the item to check if it is a stealth item.
Stealth pens Finding pen cases Observe the pen closely, after which you may check for a mechanical differentiator.[^2]
Hypodart No additional justifiable basis. Seeing the item used implies seeing the person getting hit by the dart, and then seeing the effects of chemicals take effect where no other possible explanation for those symptoms is reasonable. Examine the item closely to discover it has a hidden reservoir.
PDA uplinks Any stealth item has already been discovered in a valid way. Roleplayed as standard procedure when previous irregularities have been found.
Implants Finding the implanter, or observing the implant being used with no other possible explanation, however unlikely it is. You must have this check performed by medically trained personnel with an implant remover. Non-medical characters can have sufficient medical training so long as it is above the level of basic first aid training all members of the crew are provided with by NT.

[^1]: It should be noted that two kinds of thieving gloves exist. The thieving gloves obtainable by thief antagonists is also a chameleon clothing item and can be discovered that way too. The thieving gloves from a syndicate agent uplink are not chameleon clothing. [^2]: Note that pens without mechanical differentiators, such as an exploding pen, cannot be discovered this way and are only discoverable when used. This is subject to change.

2 - Executions

Ruling issued: 30/08/2024 - Ruling not updated since publish.

As a security player you must request Game Master approval before carrying out an execution. This may be done through in-character means or via the ahelp relay.

If a character is executed, the character is expected to be, in all nominal cases, dead and not returning. As a player whose character has been executed you may request a deviation from this from the Game Master team, provided you have in-character reasoning to do so.

The Game Master team will always verify with the player OOC whether or not the character may be executed. If the player refuses, alternative round removal will be organised by the handling Game Master, such as preservative stasis, exfiltration from the station or otherwise non-permanent ways of removing the character from the round.

3 - Regarding the terrorism charge

Ruling issued: 30/08/2024 - Ruling not updated since publish.

The intention behind the terrorism charge is strict. Anything to do with tampering with or stealing the nuclear authentication disk, or the nuclear fission explosive, while not authorised to handle those items, falls under this charge.

4 - Limitations on the use of keybinds

Ruling issued: 30/08/2024 - Ruling not updated since publish.

You are not permitted to use keybinds that result in your character speaking, whether that be in local or on a radio channel. This is to prevent players having an unfair advantage over other players without keybinds specifically in the case of communicating to others your character is in trouble.

5 - Basic expectations from command

Ruling issued: 6/10/2024 - Ruling not updated since publish.

Members in a Command role, for the purposes of this ruling including Warden, are expected to have basic independence on their own. While NanoTrasen encourages staff with disabilities to work on their stations, that encouragement dies when it comes to command members due to their critical importance. For this reason, characters in command must possess the following basic competences:

  • The ability to move around independently. (No wheelchairbound characters, permanent or ambulatory.)
  • The ability to critically reason about stressful situations. (Age minimum of 21.)
  • The ability to, without interruption, communicate with other members of command locally and on radio. (No mute characters.)
  • (Warden, HoS, HoP and Captain only) The ability to see the world around them clearly. (No blind or short-sighted characters.)

6 - Banned low-roleplay concepts

Ruling issued: 6/10/2024 - Ruling not updated since publish.

In the context of our server's setting, specific words and terminology originating in other servers encourages an actively hostile stance to other (groups of) players, or is otherwise considered poor form. Using a banned word will be met with one single warning, followed by a dewhitelisting on continued use. Using a restricted word will be met with warnings, where the further handling on continued use is up to the discretion of the handling team member.[^3]

Banned words:

  • Shitsec: (IC and OOC) Encourages an actively hostile stance towards security players.

Restricted words:

  • Skibidi, rizz, gyatt and other 'brain rot' terms: (IC only) Immersion-breaking.

The only exception is where these words are used in the ahelp relay by anyone, when the words are not used for their intended purpose (i.e. reporting, requesting an explanation, explaining, ...) or when they are used by someone with the Community Moderator role on discord for the purpose of explaining the ruling.

[^3]: While the words listed are literal, attempts to bypass these words by changing letters in them, or using an equally sounding word when pronounced, will be regarded as malicious intent and face stronger enforcement.
